My nursing career includes extensive experience in ambulatory care, behavioral and mental health, public health, health education, emergency response and in nurse administration.

My name is Derek Walcker, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who resides near Howard County, and provides comprehensive, evidence based behavioral healthcare to all the residents of my home state, Maryland. Via telehealth, I am presently focusing on treating adults of all ages (18-senior) who are afflicted with any behavioral health condition (stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, Bipolar, Insomnia, etc.) and I use a combination of both medication and psychotherapy to provide speedy remission of symptoms, while creating a long-term psychotherapeutic treatment plan to provide sustained relief.

Dr. Walker provides compassionate, individualized, team-based Psychiatric care that addresses your unique needs as a patient. Treatments offered include medication management and psychotherapy. Dr. Walker coordinates closely with other members of your treatment team to provide the best care possible. Dr. Walker spends​ the time necessary to get to know you as an individual and to thoroughly address your concerns. She is licensed to practice in Maryland and Virginia.

I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist with over 40 years of experience who does medication management and psychotherapy. I am adjunct faculty at St. Elizabeth's hospital with my wife, Deborah K. Ward, DCSW. We teach couples therapy and lead a process group. I have advanced training in Imago Relationship Therapy, family and individual therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Gestalt therapy. I support principles of Conscious Uncoupling and Imago Parent training, focusing on the family's need for listening and understanding. I am available for teletherapy with weekend and evening appointments available.

Melissa Ward, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner is originally from Ohio, where she attended Ohio University and obtained her bachelors in Psychology. She then relocated to Charleston, SC and attended the Medical University of South Carolina where she earned her bachelors in Nursing. Upon completion of her nursing degree she worked on the oncology unit at University of Maryland Medical Center.

I graduated from Drexel University with my master's degree in nursing. I then earned a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner postgraduate certificate. I have over 20 years of experience working in healthcare. Psych has always been my passion. My experiences encompass working with clients across the lifespan, including children and adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. I’ve provided services to clients presenting with many psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more. I’m of the belief that mental health wellbeing is a priority, human beings are resilient, with holistic care.

As a therapist, I believe that psychotherapy is an interactive/collaborative process between my client(s) and myself with a focus on creating a trusting, supportive relationship in which my client can develop and grow and work towards the goals that brought them into therapy. To accomplish this, I utilize a range of strategies.

They come from biological, environmental and genetic stressors that can be very difficult in treating but with time and resolve can hopefully be figured out. It can be a short or lengthy process, but I will never give up in trying to help you achieve your goals and needs. I work with adolescents and adults exhibiting a wide range of psychiatric symptoms. I believe in providing collaborative care, and would like to involve clients and their families to provide best available treatment.
