It is essential for the client to feel safe upon entering counseling and throughout their course of treatment. I have come to believe that treatment is about increasing one’s connection with the present, while seeking solutions, rather than being stuck in one’s past. My goal with any client is to work with them, so that they can feel part of the treatment process.
In my professional experience, which has spanned over 30 years, I have worked extensively with those who struggle with substance abuse and mental health issues, along with the connection between both. In addition, I have spent a significant amount of time treating trauma-related disorders.
I take a solution-oriented approach towards addressing factors that lead someone to treatment. In addition, I believe that the client already has the strengths and resources to change, and counseling is focused on bringing these to light.
