I provide individual, couples and family therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I began working in Group Homes in 1986, received my Masters of Social Work in 1990, and became Licensed to Practice in 1992. I employ multiple strategies and interventions to assist clients to reduce disruptive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and move towards productive life goals. I specialize in work with children (tantrums, anxiety, hyperactivity), adolescents (oppositional, self-harm, seeking independence from parents but making choices causing dependence), and adults (depression, anxiety, worry, stress, addictions).
I tend to be matter of fact but use humor and examples as well. Grounded in CBT but I also utilize other strategies. I ally with children to help improve task follow through and reduce consequences. I provide information/education about risks and benefits, and I provide information about symptoms/behaviors being within or outside the norm for someone's age.
Although I accept adult Individuals and couples, my training and experience is in work with children and families. Children (ages 4 - 17) accepted for issues mentioned above. Couple issues can include communication difficulties, affairs, and step-parenting/blended families. NOTE: I do not do custody evaluations or testify in court during divorces.
