My own strength is in my ability to connect with clients in a supportive, nurturing, and non-judgmental manner.
Stress, anxiety and depression can surface as reactive anger, sadness, as isolating from others, and just feel exhausting. I work with adults ( many men) to remove obstacles, find emotional clarity and meaning, and open the door to lasting change. I believe therapy to be a partnership where we build trust, become curious and collaborate on how best to remove blocks and old patterns, and acquire tools along the way toward a more fulfilled life. I seek to empower adults who struggle with trauma/PTSD, grief, at-risk behaviors, self-esteem, relationship and attachment difficulties, the codependency-narcissism bond, and life transitions.

I know you’ve been doing your best to manage these challenges on your own and I would love to be the "coach in your corner” while we navigate this process together, without any judgment.
Are you a teen or young adult feeling exhausted from emotions such as anger, anxiety, or depression? Are substance-related issues or behavioral needs complicating social or family relationships? Are the pressures during this young adult transitional period simply causing you to feel overwhelmed and uncertain of your next steps? Are you feeling stuck around school and feeling misunderstood by others in your life? I can vividly recall the very hu man “stuckness” I experienced during that period in my own life. In fact, it's what inspired me to become a therapist who specializes in supporting teens and young adults as I do today.

Aside from the traditional reasons that many seek therapists, we enjoy our work with athletes on perfor mance related issues.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and one of the owners of a group practice called Inspire Wellness. Inspire Wellness is made up of 25 clinicians with various specialties. We have offices throughout Bergen County offering therapy, Sport Psychology, Neuropsychological Testing, and Forensic Psychology. Working in a group decreases the likelihood that we run a waiting list and allows clients to find a clinician with the specialty and approach that fits their specific need. We have a full office staff that are able and willing to answer your questions and will assist you in dealing with your insurance needs.

I am a psychoanalyst specializing in the phenomena of unconscious mental life. Patients are often referred to my practice after previous efforts have felt unhelpful, limited or kept one "stuck" in and out of therapy. My focus is both on the material functioning within awareness, and dynamics operating underneath our wish--and fears--to change. This substance generates felt and unfelt strife within all individuals, regardless of symptoms, situation or diagnosis. That is to say, there is invaluable MEANING and FUNCTION to any thought, feeling or behavior. We do not operate separately from our selves.

I’ve served as Program Manager for New Jersey’s largest behavioral health nonprofit, Lead Clinician for New Jersey’s most expansive therapeutic foster care program and as a Crisis Counselor for children deemed at-risk of removal from their homes.
Finding the right therapist can be a long, confusing process. How can you be sure that the person you’re choosing has the right experience or training to effectively help you or your loved ones? As a therapist with a decade’s worth of experience, I provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment to children, adolescents, and families suffering from the effects of anxiety, depression, academic challenges and parent-child conflict.

My work with children always requires parental involvement - both parents, if available!! My blog will offer many insights: reflectionsofashrink.
During 51 years of practice, I have treated cases ranging from toilet training, school phobias, heart-break, good marriages and bad marriages, depressed adults, homocidal and suicidal persons, and every behavior disorder common to daily living. For the past several years my work has been largely related to family, marital, child development issues, and sadly many family court related cases. My practice is behavioral, and problem oriented. I have always attempted to avoid the, "purchase of friendship" consequences of long term therapy. I may not "cure" many persons, but I am certain that I have helped thousands.

Are you looking for a different way to respond to situations in your life? Although we know that "HOW" we respond is critical...we often feel we have little control over our response. We can lose sight of our better judgment, our strengths, and miss opportunities to either make the situation better or our response better. In our efforts to get rid of our problems or shoo them away, they are on our minds even more...making us feel overwhelmed and helpless. Considering or imagining other ways, of responding or looking at situations, is a matter of training the mind.

In over thirty years of practice I have come to appreciate the unique individuality of each person. I therefore work to get each individual to actively participate in setting goals and making the process beneficial . I served as a consultant to The Fertility Center of Northern New Jersey, the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, and the Terrence Cardinal Cooke Healthcare Facility, and am a clinical supervisor at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. I have written and presented on psychotherapy across cultures and am actively involved in organizing international conferences on various psychological topics.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
