You may feel unbalanced in your relationship, wondering "Do we want the same things?" "Are we still a team?" You may deal with it by reaching out repeatedly hoping your partner's response eases your concern. You care so much! Or you hope your partner gives you space to process because you don't always know what to do in the moment, but you do want things to get better! When these strategies don’t work, the relationship can start to feel stuck in a pattern neither of you want. In our counseling sessions, my goal is to help you find new patterns of deeper intimacy and stronger communication so you can enjoy the life you live together.

It happened again, last night. You and your partner got into a big fight over something so small, you can’t even remember how it started. How did it get so big, so fast? You don’t know how to make it clear that you’re listening, you get it. You know you sound harsh, and that you’re defensive. But what else can you do? The past comes up, your character goes on trial, and whatever you say just makes things worse. And saying nothing feels like taking all the blame. You can’t let things go because you’ve done so much of that already. You’re in such a sensitive place that you’re losing hope, and that’s the scariest part.

Life is full of transitions and can tug at our strings in search for identity and times of uncertainty that can increase anxiety, depression, and trigger previous trauma, that can get you feeling 'stuck'. Becoming unstuck, kicking that pebble can set the ground towards healing and wellness. Children can feel changes yet do not have the words to express how they feel. Put this together, it can become a cesspool of emotions for both the parent(s) and child with the need for solutions and relief. I work with both children and adults, parenting skills and attachment for the divorced families.

Does life feel overwhelming like going around and around on a merry-go-round? Having these feelings are perfectly normal. Talking through the life concerns or worries can help but it’s hard to share deep personal concerns with family or friends. The pressure of family, work, or past trauma's can cause anxiety, stress, even depression. Whether dealing with a difficult relationship, career, or life challenges talking with a trained professional, who is caring and compassionate can help you find freedom to start enjoying life. Think about how great it would be living life instead of just making it through each day.

People think you have the perfect relationship. And it may even look like it to those on the outside. But if you peel back the curtain, it feels more like you are roommates sharing space. You remember how in love you felt when first married. You were connected. Now, there are just glimpses of that connection. With all the busyness — jobs, kids, & noise — there is no space for real conversation. You are being pulled away from each other by constant distractions & responsibilities. You are afraid of the future possibility of a lonely marriage. You’ve tried everything to help the relationship & now you’re tired. You need help.

As an EMDR Certified clinician, I take a different approach to counseling. If you're tired of traditional talk therapy, or want to try EMDR because you've heard others sing its praises, you're in the right place. EMDR is a counseling method that helps people overcome a number of issues including anxiety, self-esteem problems, feeling like an imposter, trying to move on from negative events or trauma and more. Much like the healing that takes place in REM sleep, EMDR heals using eye movements to reprocess the experiences we've had that lead to these concerns so that they sit in the brain differently. And they no longer feel true!

Do you feel stuck? Are you ready for change but don't know where to start? With compassion and skill, I look at client issues through the lens of relationships: we impact those around us and they impact us. Using EMDR, IFS, and emotionally focused therapy, I help individuals build a healthy self image and develop coping strategies to handle anxiety and depression. With couples and families, I use restoration therapy to go to the heart of the problem by looking at the emotions that we feel when we are in conflict and define the cycles that we get trapped in.

Our time together starts by exploring your values and learning how we can make the therapy process align best with you, ironing out the wrinkles standing in your way. The significance that the change process has on all of us, and the universality in which we can all suffer, all heal, and all forge tools to maintain wellness in our lives is what's driven me through my over 7 years of clinical experience with adolescents and adults in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and groups settings. All of this informs the values of my practice: Collaboration, Creativity, Accountability, Acceptance, and Patience.

I believe each of us were designed for deep relationship and long for a sense of acceptance and belonging. So often however, we seem unable to experience authentic connection or intimacy with others. Though we reach out, we may feel unseen and unheard, eventually withdrawing, questioning our worth, and losing our ability to know and share our true self. The loneliness at times may feel overwhelming, as if there is no one to help us carry our confusion, hurts, or fears. It is in these times we may need someone with whom we can share our burdens, someone who will hear our brokenness and accept us as we are.

Understanding your own journey is one of the bravest things you will ever do for yourself. Sometimes our story doesn’t follow the plan we had dreamed of, or it takes some turns for the worst, leaving us feeling lost, hopeless, and/or lonely. When difficult transitions occur, it makes understanding our story even more difficult. When you enter this season of trying to make sense of the twists and turns, having a skilled companion by your side to listen, see you, affirm you, and explore difficult parts of your story can be healing. I am here to help you discover that inner strength, and provide clarity, and support.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.
Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.
Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
