I have over 25 years experience helping people to find relief from anxiety and depression, reduce emotional reactivity, and resolve troublesome communication patterns. I work with individuals, families and adolescents. My approach to psychotherapy helps people attend to symptoms in the mind and body while increasing their ability to understand and communicate felt emotions. Somatic (body-based) techniques have been increasingly associated with more profound and timely results in therapeutic treatment. My work with clients brings focus to these three domains -- body, thought, and emotion -- in a supportive and compassionate way.
My academic training is in family therapy and various psychodynamic approaches. I teach meditation at Vermont Insight Meditation Center and am skilled at adapting mindfulness techniques in the therapeutic environment, as well as utilizing Buddhist psychology to address problematic thought patterns that cause anxiety and mood issues.
I developed my skills with somatic attention through years of practice with meditation, Authentic Movement, and Qi Gong. I’ve trained in Nonviolent Communication, a practice which builds emotional intelligence and expression. I’m active with Compassionate Brattleboro. Away from work I enjoy cycling, gardening, and woodworking.
