You find yourself in a reoccurring pattern that you don't know how to break- You do SO much for others, understanding the importance of caring for yourself too, yet you find that it's difficult to trust them with the "too-much-ness"/ "intense emotion" that you've been accused of possessing. You're left to carry it on your own, not wanting to burden others with your struggles. You wish you could shut off that nagging, critical voice in your head & all the self-doubt that comes with it. Maybe, at times, you feel as if the tug-of-war of thoughts & emotions is too messy & overwhelming to touch. You think, "Maybe 'they' were right."...

From serving many women in 19 years of ministry, and as a woman who has journeyed through many of life's struggles and heartbreak myself, I'm humbled to serve now as a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor.
None of us are immune to hardships and trials in this life, but we don't have to walk through them alone. It's helpful to find a safe space and someone to walk alongside for support and guidance as we navigate the way through the present and the past. In my own journey I've been so blessed by others who have been that for me, and I am grateful for every opportunity I'm allowed to comfort others in the ways I've been comforted. How do we learn and grow through the pain, discover more of who God has made us to be, and trust Him as He works it all together for good?

Update: I am currently on maternity leave until mid-December! - I am passionate about providing a safe and welcoming space for people to receive support and heal. I care deeply about meeting clients where they are and tailoring sessions to their specific needs. In my work with clients, I strive to create a space in which we can become curious about patterns that are no longer working, and how they might have developed in the first place. I help people develop more effective ways of coping, and I support them in changing the ways they relate to themselves and others.

I specifically work with adult children of parents that abused substances when they were growing up, and most of my clients still have a relationship with their parents. Whether your parent is now sober or still in active addiction, there is a complexity to the emotions this relationship(s) holds, the grief over what you wish you had with them, and the anger of the choice they have (and often times continue to) made. Due to this complexity and this grief, extra care and knowledge around attachment theory and trauma are required when working with clients that I can provide.

As a licensed professional counselor, I believe we all have a story to tell as we navigate through life. Everyone deserves a safe space to share their story, build new skills, and learn new insights into who they are. Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or grief? Has stress got you feeling overwhelmed? Do substance abuse issues have you feeling stuck? I use an integrative approach, utilizing evidenced based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), act and commitment therapy (ACT), solutions focused therapy (SFT), brainspotting (BSP), and mindfulness.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
