Our Approach
At Newport Academy, our comprehensive approach supports young people ages 12 and up to address the root causes of self-destructive behaviors, not just the symptoms. From a foundation of compassionate care, clinical expertise, and unconditional love, we guide teens and their families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing by treating the underlying trauma and attachment wounds that catalyze depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders. Incorporating clinical, experiential, and holistic modalities, our gender-specific treatment is family-focused and results-oriented. We nurture teens’ physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs. Our mission is to empower teens and restore families by supporting them to build the self-understanding, connection, self-acceptance, and academic and life skills that allow them to find their place in the world. Our Clinical Team
The foundation of our unparalleled teen treatment centers is our team of psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapists, eating disorder therapists, nurse practitioners, counselors, equine therapists, art therapists, music therapists, adventure therapists, registered dietitians, nutritionists, teachers, and private tutors, with a wide range of degrees and experience. Newport Academy has assembled the best rehab team and mental health leaders in the country, who provide a truly comprehensive, cutting-edge approach to individualized treatment. Our innovative professionals are versed in the latest therapeutic modalities for teens, and collaborate to create customized treatment plans for each adolescent. Newport Academy’s doctors and psychiatrists, recognized experts in the field, are empathetic and caring individuals who see each teen as a unique and brilliant individual—not just a collection of symptoms. Our team also includes skilled and caring experiential therapists who guide teens toward deeper self-awareness and freedom from old patterns; and academic experts who provide personalized education, helping teens experience joy and inspiration in the learning process. Our Evidence-Based Treatment
Each individualized plan takes into account a patient’s psychological history, current circumstances, family situation, and learning needs, and includes a variety of evidence-based modalities: Clinical: Teens’ weekly schedules include both individual and group therapy, utilizing modalities including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Our approach recognizes that the family is an essential part of the healing process, and we use Attachment-Based Family Therapy to repair parent-child relationships. Experiential: In art, music, Equine-Assisted Therapy, mixed martial arts, and more, teens process emotions and memories through doing, feeling, and relating—not just thinking and talking. Adventure Therapy is a cornerstone of our experiential offerings. Academic: Residents spend structured time in the classroom each day, and with tutors as necessary, so they can continue to make academic progress during treatment and return to the classroom more engaged and inspired.
