Working with trauma presents as a space that can be messy and produce multiple forms of obstacles, but it is through working with some history that may be hurtful and confusing that growth takes place not only for the client but for me as a counsellor. Identifying that the need is to firstly speak and be heard, held in the moment, guided in understanding their current physical and psychological reactions due to their traumas. Goals align around either a physical need or psychological motivation to have better/healthier coping mechanisms. As said in their needs, being heard and held in a space allows for a sense of freedom to let go.
Building on my knowledge from my studies and experiences, I specialize in bereavement counselling, Also understanding that loss can take place in every aspect of our lives. In marriage, individual, parenting, and substance abuse counselling we work on the part of ourselves or situation where we have lost something.
We often forget that the space in our minds and hearts can get cluttered and may no longer have room to take on more of what may weigh us down. The bits that spill over present as parts of ourselves that we may not like right now or we may have difficulty fitting in with others due to it. Counselling is a space where what spills over can be unpacked.
