Critics Consensus

Tim Burton's Alice sacrifices the book's minimal narrative coherence -- and much of its heart -- but it's an undeniable visual treat.

Anthony Lane New Yorker The movie badgers rather than charms, but it's rescued by Helena Bonham Carter's brisk performance as the Red Queen. Jul 26, 2021 Full Review Liza Featherstone Bitch Media Disney's is kind of a tepid liberal feminism, but that's far more badass and entertaining than no feminism at all. Dec 23, 2020 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator It's horribly generic. This is a Disney film and it feels like a Disney film, whereas I'd hoped it would feel like a Tim Burton film. Aug 30, 2018 Full Review Clotilde Chinnici Loud and Clear Reviews Alice in Wonderland also portrays Alice’s transition into adulthood: the physical journey into Wonderland mirrors a psychological journey of personal growth in the main character. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 14, 2024 Full Review Michael Leader Den of Geek A shallow, stunted spectacle that does surprisingly little with its rich source. Instead, it is Tim Burton’s successful stab at inoffensive, unchallenging children’s entertainment. Rated: 3/5 May 7, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The outcome is loud and excessive and just plain awful, reminding us that there’s more to filmmaking than art design alone. Rated: 1/4 Aug 22, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

László K To be honest the original story is not my favourite, but I wanted to give this film a chance. I really like Disney movies, but this was really underwhelming for me. I knew everything that is going to happen, there were no surprises and I couldn't connect with any character. The view was great but the story was boring Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Rich S It's Tim Burton's show and I'm guessing that he got what he wanted out of the performances, the costumes, the art and the sets. But I'm not sure it's what the audiences wanted or expected. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review David R I watched this movie so many times as a kid and loved it. I was scared to rewatch it as an adult thinking I would hate it, but it still holds up. It's not as great as I remembered it when I was a kid, but I still really enjoy the movie and I don't get all the negative reviews about it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review Guilherme F NÃO É UM DOS PIORES LIVE ACTION DA DISNEY , PELO CONTRARIO COMPARADO AOS OUTROS ELE DESEMPENHA BEM MAS ISSO NÃO SIGNIFICA NADA PRO MEU CRITERIO DE AVALIZÇÃO , FALANDO MAIS SOBRE O FILME , ELE É BEM CONFUSO , O ROTEIRO NAO ENTREGA TANTO O QUE EU QUERIA , O VISUAL É MEIO PALIDO DEMAIS , CGI FORÇADO MAS ISSO NEM É O MAIOR PROBLEMA , FIGURINO É LEGAL , MAS O FILME EM RESUMO MESMO É BEM CONFUSO E DISTINTO DAS IDEIAS INICIAIS QUE EU ESPERAVA... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Faiz D A visual treat, but still a huge disappointment. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Alan g Again nothing like the book. Visually spectacular but meandering and pointless. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
