Alien: Romulus

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Honoring its nightmarish predecessors while chestbursting at the seams with new frights of its own, Romulus injects some fresh acid blood into one of cinema's great horror franchises.

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The taut set pieces are so dynamic, the tension so stickily uncomfortable, the sound design so jarring and full of screaming metal, that you barely notice that the connective tissue between the action scenes strains to hold them together. Rated: 4/5 Aug 19, 2024 Full Review Katie Walsh Tribune News Service “Alien” movies are like pizza, and aside from a few head-scratching choices that will no doubt inspire reams of think pieces, “Alien: Romulus,” with its thrilling tactility and appealingly plucky cast, is a very enjoyable pie. Rated: 3/4 Aug 18, 2024 Full Review David Jenkins Little White Lies It makes for a decent time at the pictures, and the grinding first half is worth enduring for a pleasantly rip-snorting finale. Rated: 3/5 Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Tony Baker Tony Baker Comedy I really love this franchise and... I love it when they get it right, and I feel like they got it right. Rated: 4/5 Aug 20, 2024 Full Review Molly Henery The Blogging Banshee Alien: Romulus is a worthy addition to the Alien franchise, giving audiences a taste of something new, along with plenty of nostalgia. Rated: 7/10 Aug 20, 2024 Full Review Keri O'Shea Warped Perspective What ensues is - with a few minor and a couple of major peeves regarding plot expediency - a tightly-wrought nightmare. DANNY L Nice new cast , but old premise! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review TM I liked it. Reminded me of the original Alien in many ways. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Jenifer Action packed. Never a dull moment. A bit too gory. Leaves room for another sequel Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Chantel B Quite an uninteresting start, however this turned out to be a very decent follow up with a younger crew. However, for once I'd like to see more than 1 human survivor in these movies!! Also, an earth setting is long overdue, the space locations are beyond played out now. One thing I hate about movies like this is the pausing, to talk, hug, or whatever, when they should just keep moving. Stalling never turns out well. Seeing the planet's rings was something I've probably never seen before so nicely done. A floating rat was par for the course. The baby actually being born as some sort of hybrid reminded me of Prometheus, and was a very good touch-back to that look and what the possibility of these things could be. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Andre B. The movie was ok. Nothing new other than a little twist at the end. Was not worth coming to a theater. Could have waited for it to come out on a streaming service… Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Richard W The movie was pretty good. The nod to the previous synthetic Ash in the original was a good idea. The movie followed the predictable pattern, but then took a turn for the gross. It was interesting ending and a bit much for my taste. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
