Karen Han Slashfilm Unfortunately, the more "real" the movie tries to make everything appear, the harder it becomes to ignore that the necessity to their falling in love isn't particularly romantic Rated: 4/10 Dec 8, 2017 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess Its misguided attempts to secure Best Original Song nominations bloat like a puffer fish, turning a swift 90-minute movie into a cumbersome two-hour snoozefest. Aug 10, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Imitation, emulation, and homage are all part of that process, but so is reappraisal and reinterpretation. Those later two actions are what drive this new fantasy film to soaring and successful heights. Rated: 4/5 Feb 16, 2024 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) This film is a careless exercise in capital gain; it mines a true cinema classic for commercial value and leaves nothing artistic in its wake. Luke Storyline fantastic. Got the emotions going. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/03/23 Full Review Fernando It was horrible!!!! Nothing compared to the cartoon Disney version! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/01/22 Full Review Alex B Although it wasn't necessary and doesn't carry a candle to the first, there are slight changes to the Belle and Beast story lines that improve the realism of their relationship. People fall in love with the little moments of realism between each other, so the fact that we get real little moments, such as their trip to Paris, really helps with establishing a real relationship. The original was missing this. What takes this film overall down though is the fact that the gaston and lefou are not written well. Gaston in the original is so obviously awful that it makes him one of the best villains in the disney cannon. Lefou is just his lackey. However, in the remake, they make Gaston more manipulative. While much more realistic to what a "gaston" type person is in our world, it doesn't serve the movie that well. Emma Watson, in my humble opinion, nailed Belle. While her singing wasn't amazing, it wasn't as awful as many think. And her acting outside of the music nails Belle to a T. Dan Stevens played as good as he could with a role like the Beast, and Luke Evans does the best he could with the character. In short, definitely worth a watch every once in a while. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Maria O Acting and Music were amazing. So glad it kept to the original and stray off too far. One of my favorite remakes of a classic film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Jack N Original is better, and I wouldn’t say it is that close. Worth a watch though.
