Dan R 'DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp' is an absolute blast from the past! The film still holds all of the charm as it did on release, but more importantly the charm of the original TV series. It's not easy to stretch out what would normally be a 20min TV episode into a 73min cinematic experience. But here they do it well. Don't get me wrong the animation is only a slight cut above standard tv quality, but this is all about the story. It's essentially Indiana Jones with ducks! What's not to love?! I watched it just know and it thought it was fine. The DuckTales Movie was slightly cheesy and silly, but I still like it. What a good movie. I give this a 64%. Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Audience Member astounding animation, a true sense of fun, and family-friendly for all viewers the hit animated TV series makes its first full length feature the characters you know and love; Uncle Scrooge, Launchpad, Huey, Duey, Louie, and Webby embark on their biggest adventure yet taking a few pages from 'Indiana Jones' Scrooge and his nephews and niece are on the hunt for the greatest archaeological find, after discovering a tomb complete with booby traps, scorpions, they just happen to find a lamp in the process but they're not the only ones after the treasure for it turns out an immortal evil sorcerer voiced by Cristopher Lloyd wants the lamp for himself it's said to have a genie inside it and can grant the holder any wish they want the kids make it back home with the lamp as the only relic they managed to save waking up the genie inside I love this genie character voiced by Rip Taylor as he's happy to be free but completely oblivious to what's happened since his imprisonment for over 6000 years, it helps too that he explains to the kids that his powers can be misused, the wishes can get out of control, any holder of the lamp fights over it which will lead to him being trapped again for a long time not only that but the sorcerer was actually the genie's first master who made him immortal and imbued him with a powerful talisman surprisingly this movie teaches a huge lesson about existentialism which is pretty heavy stuff for an animated kids flick; the genie is someone kids relate to because he just wants a life of his own, free from subjugation I think nearly all of us want our freedom to have a normal life not bending to anyone's will plus we will always choose mortality over immortality in order to fully enjoy the things you couldn't normally do otherwise the film also shows what happens to someone like Scrooge when being greedy and power-hungry can lead to terrible ramifications we all have to use our wishes carefully if they are given to us, too the movie again has terrific animation, adventure thrills, plenty of good laughs from the genie, a menacing villain, and an actual moral for the children to grasp after it's finished true the movie didn't make the money it could have but thankfully it has gained a cult following over the years which shows how popular it was airing on TV I'm also glad it revolutionized the animation department for Disney following others like 'Black Cauldron' Glad to say here that they managed to stretch a 20 minute episode into an endearing family romp for all all DuckTales fans will go nuts for this!
