What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it doesn't quite live up to its title, Fun and Fancy Free has its moments, and it's a rare opportunity to see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy together.

TIME Magazine The whole picture peters out and becomes as oddly off-balance and inconsequential as its title. Nov 16, 2009 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times While the emphasis is more on the first part than on the second part of that compound, it's okay. Rated: 3/5 Mar 25, 2006 Full Review Keith Phipps AV Club Fun And Fancy Free is a mixed bag with more than enough interesting material to make it worth seeing, even if it falls short of Disney's shameless self-praise. Oct 9, 2001 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a hit-and-miss yet mostly watchable anthology film... Rated: 3/4 Aug 6, 2024 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn The fact that so much effort was put into Fun and Fancy Free to make it feel like more than just a random collection of shorts is something to be celebrated, even if the final product remains passable at best. Nick S Good old school Disney movie antology. Rare chance to see Mickey, Donald and Goofy all together! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Daniel F Although, still a roughly made film within this era of Disney animation, it's still better than it's predecessors, The Three Cabellors and Saludos Amigos. it puts the three famous Disney characters to more use, I prefer the use of Live action and it fits within the movie. 5.5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Dale R This movie is just weird. Two animated stories: Bongo and Mickey and the Beanstalk, are stitched together through live action segments that feature ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. Mr. Bergen's form of comedy does not age well and the live action segments feel more awkward than entertaining. The animated shorts are well done and are entertaining, though the Mickey short is the best of the two. This is also the last time Walt Disney was the voice of Mickey Mouse. You can really hear how his smoking affected his voice if you listen to Mickey from earlier shorts and Mickey from this movie. Worth a watch if you're curious. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Cody W Ok, let me get this straight. You try to get a bear's attention by slapping it in the face? I don't get it. But nonetheless, FUN AND FANCY FREE does have really good music, and it's really nice to see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy together in one story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/23 Full Review Cyrus K It's like a lot of people say. Mickey and the beanstalk is fantastic while Bongo is just OK. And Bongo has a bit of a laid back tone that you could say is intentional but it kinda makes it a tad bit boring. But i still think this is a good wartime era movie from Disney. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Luciano B My all-time favorite "classic Disney" era film. Wonderful music, timeless animation, great characters and some great humor. How it isn't higher in rating I'll never know. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/21/22 Full Review Read all reviews
