Critics Consensus

Gifted isn't quite as bright as its pint-sized protagonist, but a charming cast wrings respectably engaging drama out of a fairly predictable premise.

David Stratton The Australian It's good to see [Marc Webb] back working on more intimate material, even though Gifted isn't entirely satisfactory. Rated: 3/5 Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Gifted is not your run-of-the-mill melodrama. More like an exceptional melodrama. It still plays the violin, if you get what I mean, but the violinist is skilful. Rated: 4/5 Aug 30, 2017 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times Gifted gives glorified TV movies a better name. Rated: 3/4 Jun 29, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson This story is markedly better when it is out of the courtroom or the bedroom and showcasing the bond of memories being made and principles being built by an impressionable child and her dutiful guardian. Rated: 3/5 Oct 14, 2024 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine The performances, especially that of Lindsay Duncan, are a strong feature, but the film fails to break with genre clichés. It is a valid option for fans of courtroom drama, but not very memorable as a whole. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times Gifted isn't just a great family film, it offers insight and lessons for a lifetime and might actually make you and your children better people. That's far more than you can expect to take away from any movie. Rated: 4.5/5 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Bronwyn D Good acting from the Main Characters. Story was just, okay. Bel progetto. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Ace H The best scene in this film is the part with the pickup truck after Chris Evans/Frank Adler visits the animal shelter. A sweet film with good acting and no hateful political smearing of anyone. Bring tissues, but know the ending will be satisfactorily upbeat. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review Samantha L Alright, let’s be real—sometimes you just need a movie that tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you with all the warm fuzzies. Gifted does exactly that. Directed by Marc Webb, this flick brings us Chris Evans as Frank, a guy just trying to give his niece, Mary (played by the scene-stealing Mckenna Grace), a normal life despite her being a straight-up child prodigy. Now, here’s the thing—Gifted doesn’t exactly rewrite the playbook when it comes to family dramas, but that’s not a knock. It’s got a charm that sneaks up on you. Evans shows he’s more than just a superhero, bringing serious depth to his role as a loving, self-sacrificing uncle. And Mckenna Grace? Absolute powerhouse. She’s the heart of the film, balancing genius with just enough vulnerability to keep you hooked. What makes Gifted stand out is how it keeps things real. Relationships are messy, family is complicated, and this movie doesn’t shy away from that. It throws in humor at the right moments and hits those emotional beats when it needs to, without getting too sappy. Sure, it’s predictable at times, but it knows exactly what kind of movie it is—a heartwarming, feel-good story that knows how to deliver the feels without being overbearing. Plus, who doesn’t love a bonus one-eyed cat? Bottom line? Gifted is like that cozy sweater you never want to take off—warm, familiar, and hits you right in the feels. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s got heart, and sometimes that’s all you really need. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review rozhan f Very touching and the plot is not boring. I cried many times watching it because its very well played by the actors and actresses. I definitely recommend others to watch it!
