The only thing worse than the writing was the plot. The emotional character arcs were rushed and seemingly came out of nowhere. The main romance lacked any reason for us to root for them. The movie would have been the exact same if they didn't get together. This movie also seemed to try to make a point of pop over taking soul, r&b, and hip hop but hip hop and r&b were the second and third most listen to genres on Spotify across all users. Just because they aren't first doesn't mean they are last. There were too many messages and it made none of them seem meaningful. The movie tries to make a point about reconnecting with your roots and the community but there is never ANY interaction with said community. The antagonist is evil for evils sake and no real motivation.
