What to Know

Critics Consensus

A nostalgic charmer, Lady and the Tramp's token sweetness is mighty but the songs and richly colored animation are technically superb and make for a memorable experience.

Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune The quintessential American love story -- the one between the spoiled heiress and the spontaneous, fun-loving guy from the wrong side of the tracks -- has seldom been more elegantly and entertainingly told. Rated: 5/5 Dec 25, 2010 Full Review TIME Magazine Walt Disney has for so long parlayed gooey sentiment and stark horror into profitable cartoons that most moviegoers are apt to be more surprised than disappointed to discover that the combination somehow does not work this time. Sep 1, 2008 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn Especially due to its canine protagonists, the film finds a notable personality and energy that carries the film and creates a completely passable final viewing experience. Dec 2, 2023 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight While “Lady and the Tramp” is enjoyable, it pales in comparison to both Disney’s earlier and later works. Kids will love it, but parents beware…it is a little sappy and occasionally bland. Emily B Lady and the Tramp is very iconic. Everyone should watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Dale R It’s a movie about dogs, with two cats and a rat as the villains. Ok, that is oversimplified. The story of lovers from opposite sides of the economic spectrum is done well here and some of the music (“Belle Noche” and “He’s a Tramp”) is iconic. Plus the spaghetti scene is one of the best in Disney canon, if not all of film history. Definitely worth checking out! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Jacob D Lady and the Tramp is one of the best Disney classics of all time. Dog lovers will love it, as well as anyone who love good Disney films. Barbara Luddy does a good job as Lady and Larry Roberts is a great funnyman as Tramp, along with a great supporting cast with Bill Thompson, superstar Peggy Lee, and The Mellomen. They just don't make them like this anymore Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Nicha T "Lady and the Tramp" is a classic animated film by Disney that debuted in 1955. It falls primarily into the animated romance and family genres. Lady, an upper-middle-class Cocker Spaniel, and Tramp, a street-smart stray dog, are the main protagonists of the story. Lady feels neglected after her owners have a baby. She meets Tramp, who shows her the joys of life outside the confines of a fenced yard. They have adventures together, including a romantic spaghetti dinner at an Italian restaurant. However, their romance faces challenges from zealous dog catchers and Tramp's free-spirited lifestyle. Eventually, Lady's owners realize her importance and the bond between Lady and Tramp, leading to a heartwarming conclusion where the two dogs find their happily ever after. What I love the most about this movie are the characters. Lady is a refined and loyal Cocker Spaniel, while Tramp is a street-smart and charming stray mutt. Lady values her home and family, displaying bravery when needed. Tramp is adventurous and independent, with a soft spot for Lady. The character design and costumes are carefully crafted to match the early 1900s setting. Lady's elegant appearance matches her gentle demeanor, while Tramp's rugged look suits his streetwise nature. The costumes capture each character's essence and contribute to the film's authentic charm. This movie really resonates with audiences through its themes of love, loyalty, and adventure. Viewers are drawn into the journey of Lady and Tramp as they overcome challenges and find companionship. Memorable scenes, like the romantic spaghetti dinner, and heartwarming moments resonate with all ages. The film's emotional depth, paired with its evocative music and charming animation, creates a timeless story that is still beloved today. The animators did a great job portraying human-like behaviors through the dogs' characters. It looks realistic and adorable, while the characters' dialogue reflects their personalities. Lady's gentle and caring nature contrasts with Tramp's witty and adventurous spirit. Their heartfelt exchanges highlight their journey to love and understanding. What's special about this movie for me is how it depicts cozy home scenes and exciting outdoor adventures with colorful and expressive characters. The colors and lighting set the mood, whether it's the cozy feel of Lady's home or the romantic vibe of moonlit nights. These visuals, along with the delightful music soundtrack, enhance the film's charm and emotional depth. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Blu B A Classic Disney Flick. The voice acting, animation, and music is all top notch and super memorable. This is filled with energy and charm in every scene. Editing is solid and the pacing is really good but not as up to snuff as the rest of the movie. There are certain scenes that feel like they do drag a little bit like the pregnancy which could've been a montage and I feel like certain things could've been done better if this had a narration to it as well. This moves very quick and sometimes the tone is a bit all over the place going from jolly to dark back to jolly almost a bit too quickly. And certain scenes get more time than others and could've been told in a tighter way. But the direction and asetics are so strong it is able to power through it with almost no problem. If your a big fan of Disney Movies, family movies, or animated films than give this a watch. It's a great time. The Aunt sucks in this and is so unlikeable. lol Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Tabitha B My favorite Walt-era Disney movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
