Critics Consensus

Planes has enough bright colors, goofy voices, and slick animation to distract some young viewers for 92 minutes -- and probably sell plenty of toys in the bargain -- but on nearly every other level, it's a Disney disappointment.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk Essentially, it's Cars retold with planes. Small, undiscerning kiddies will probably love it and demand the DVD on repeat; adults will be nosediving into their popcorn with boredom. Rated: 2/5 Sep 5, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times In the skies, as on tarmac, this remains the world's most fossil-fuel-friendly franchise. Rated: 3/5 Aug 23, 2013 Full Review Guy Lodge London Evening Standard For "international", read "packed with wince-worthy ethnic stereotyping" - it's the only way the writers know how to define character in a universe this soulless. Rated: 2/5 Aug 16, 2013 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film It’s all about Cook and Keach, whose relationship and characters are the main focus here. Rated: B Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad annavetticadgoes2themovies Planes is sweet. It’s also insubstantial and feels incomplete; a film I think I might have liked better if I’d never seen Pixar’s Cars. Rated: 2.75/5 Jan 15, 2023 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com One film that should find itself grounded from the box-office airways rather quickly. Dylan L The only similarity it has to cats is that an old cat teaches youngster some tricks and tips. That is the single comparison, other than that, you can’t tell me anything else is like it. Good movie as I’m seeing this almost 11 years after it was released🤙 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Los críticos no se dan cuenta de que el protagonista es un ejemplo de que alguien tan pequeño puede ser muy grande, esta película no merece ser odiada, al diablo con los críticos esta película es una joya Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Dale R Disney’s spin-off of Pixar’s Cars franchise is about a crop dusting airplane that longs to be a racer. The animation is alright, but the lighting effects are not as good as the ones from Pixar. Again, you have to put aside thinking about the logistics of how this world works. The voice acting is well done here with props to Brad Garrett as the protagonist’s best friend. The writing and storyboarding are where this movie falls short. The movie flows like a checklist of story beats they had to cover for the basics of the story to make sense. Reaction shots, inner monologue, deeper conversations between the characters, really anything that would have endeared these new characters to the audience are all missing. I’m sure a younger audience would be fine with this film and may even ask for a toy or two, but this isn’t a movie for the whole family, skip it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Jack N Loved this movie as a kid. Don’t love it nearly as much now especially because it is basically Cars. It’s not a bad movie, just doesn’t do anything good. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Pillow R I don't know why this movie is so hated, it's not perfect but it isn't terrible Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Jowell T This maybe not the greatest but it a film I love Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Read all reviews
