Critics Consensus

Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing.

Samantha Riedel Bitch Media DC Comics' latest addition to their burgeoning cinematic universe fails in several rather spectacular ways. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review K. Austin Collins The Ringer For all its cast and crew's inglorious chest-thumping, Suicide Squad is a failed, forced exercise in - of all things! you had one job! - ensemble chemistry. Aug 10, 2017 Full Review Matthew Rozsa Salon.com Based on the screening I attended, I can attest that audiences seemed to genuinely enjoy the jokes and get swept up in the action sequences. Rated: 3/4 Aug 3, 2017 Full Review Zach Pope Zach Pope Reviews A tonal mess with good characters.. Aug 7, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) The film’s reputation is worse than its actual quality, but it’s still not good enough to hold a candle to what James Gunn did with the characters in 2021. Jun 16, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Bad pacing, horribly chopped-up story structure, and dull forgettable action. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Big Red Cool to see the characters on the big screen Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review Heel365 the main part was this is what Ghostbusters should've been Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/17/21 Full Review Jon P It wasn't terrible I just don't see how a girl with a bat and a guy with good aim and other guys best someone 10x more powerful and where was batman?? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Jace E The DCEU was objectively horrible and Suicide Squad was one of the worst of the bunch. I don't understand how someone could take strong source material and a star-studded cast and create a film that is just so bad. At the peak of the MCU (about this same exact time) that studio was taking chances on little-known writers and directors with unique projects. Taika, James Gunn, Coogler and others were able to take similar source material and elevate it to greatness. Unfortunately, David Ayer was not that guy. Maybe that's the studio's fault, maybe he's just not a good writer or director. This film has no heart, no humor and felt like a chore to get through. On top of all of that, the dialogue is one of the worst that I have seen in the last decade. Best Character: Diablo Best Quote: I honestly can't pick one. The worst line, however, is the climactic "You don't have the balls." Best Scene: Introducing the Team Best Piece of Score: "One Bullet Is All I Need" Note: I DESPISE this version of the Joker. I can't handle him at all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Zack S Accurate representation of characters. Too many unnecessary jokes, children's movie. Too few parts about Jared's Joker, it would have been nice to see more about the story with Harley. Lights and script okay, from the original trailer I expected a much darker film. All things considered acceptable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review Charlie M Really dumb. The story is very uninteresting, the dialogue is poor, and the unique style was just strange.
