There wasn't much mention of Samsung during the ongoing Snapdragon Summit 2023 even though it continues to be one of the leading OEM partners of Qualcomm. However, that draught ended today as Qualcomm highlighted the partners that will be creating PCs based on the Snapdragon X Elite platform.
Qualcomm broadcasted comments of executives from its PC OEM partners, including Samsung, who confirmed in no uncertain words that they will be coming out with products that are powered by the Snapdragon X Elite.
Samsung's Snapdragon X Elite PCs likely coming mid-2024
Matthew Leem, VP of Brand Marketing Group, at Samsung's Mobile eXperience Business made an appearance on behalf of Samsung. He closed out the video with the following comments: “We at Samsung couldn't be more excited for Snapdragon X Elite.” That's a clear enough indication that Samsung will be making PCs powered by Snapdragon X Elite, if it wasn't, why would it be excited about the new chipset!
Just yesterday we opined about how the Galaxy Book 4 Ultra and the Snapdragon X Elite are a match made in heaven. It could serve as a good stepping stone for Samsung to transition its high-end laptops from the x86 architecture to ARM-based chipsets. With the company reportedly harboring intentions to produce its own ARM-based Exynos chips for Windows PCs, working with Qualcomm on this is only going to serve its long-term objectives.
Qualcomm has made some lofty claims about the Snapdragon X Elite's performance and power efficiency. boasting a considerable improvement in single-thread and multi-thread performance compared to some of Intel's high-end x86 processors at a fraction of the power consumption. The company's advanced on-device AI, Snapdragon Seamless technology for improved cross-device experiences across Android and Windows, and revolutionary XPAN technology for streaming audio to earbuds over Wi-Fi make the Snapdragon X Elite one of the most comprehensive packages we've seen for an ARM-based Windows PC.
It's going to be a while before we see devices powered by this chipset, though. Qualcomm itself has confirmed that its partners will be coming out with Snapdragon X Elite-powered devices in mid-2024. That's also around the same time we expect new notebooks from Samsung, so this is a collaboration that we'll definitely be keeping an eye out for. The possibilities here for improved cross-device usability between Galaxy-branded notebooks and Galaxy phones and tablets are quite exciting.
