Samsung's mid-range chips used to be quite weak in terms of performance. However, the company started improving them a couple of years ago, starting with the Exynos 1380. Next year, the company could release the Exynos 1580 processor, which will likely be as powerful as the Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm's flagship chip for 2021.

Galaxy A56's Exynos 1580 processor specifications leak

A new smartphone chipset from Samsung with the codename S5E8855 recently appeared in Geekbench's database. Based on its codename, the chip will likely launch as the Exynos 1580 and could be used in the Galaxy A56 next year. It appears to have an octa-core CPU with one prime core clocked at 2.91GHz, three high-end cores clocked at 2.6GHz, and four efficient cores running at 1.95GHz.

The upcoming Samsung chip was tested on a device with 8GB RAM and Android 15 (One UI 7.0). It scored 1,046 points in the single-core test and 3,678 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench 5. That makes it almost as powerful as the Exynos 2100 and the Snapdragon 888, which were 2021 flagship chips from Samsung and Qualcomm, respectively.

Samsung Exynos 1580 Geekbench Scores Leak

The Exynos 1580 features Samsung's own Xclipse 540 GPU, an upgrade over the Exynos 1480's Xclipse 530 GPU. It is likely based on the same AMD's RDNA3 graphics architecture used in the Galaxy S24's Exynos 2400 chip. The Xclipse 530 GPU is already as powerful as the ones from higher mid-range chips from Qualcomm, and the Xclipse 540 GPU will likely overtake them in terms of performance.

Apparently, this Samsung chip has four Cortex-A720 CPU cores and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores. Its internal codename is said to be ‘Santa.' Hopefully, the Exynos 1580 doesn't have any overheating and efficiency issues.

The story continues after our Galaxy S23 FE review video below.

Since the Exynos 1480 already features Samsung Foundry's 4nm fabrication and has a built-in 5G modem, GNSS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC, the Exynos 1580 will likely have those (or even better) features. Since Samsung is yet to launch a flagship smartphone chip made on its 3nm process node, the Exynos 1580 might not be a 3nm chip.

What to expect from Galaxy A56?

The Galaxy A56 will likely be announced early next year to succeed the Galaxy A55. The Galaxy A55 already has high-end features like a bright 120Hz OLED screen, a glass back, an aluminum frame, a heat sink, a primary camera with OIS, stereo speakers, and an IP67 rating.

All Galaxy A56 needs to bring are thinner and more uniform screen bezels, 4K 60fps video recording, and improved performance without drastic throttling in long workloads like gaming.
