While Samsung has a pretty solid smartwatch lineup, it hasn't launched any fitness band for over three years. But that is changing soon, as the company is almost ready to launch the Galaxy Fit 3. The first set of Galaxy Fit 3 images was unveiled a few months ago, and now, almost all its features have leaked.
Galaxy Fit 3 features and specifications
Samsung UAE accidentally published the product page for the Galaxy Fit 3, revealing all its features and specifications. The device has a 1.6-inch AMOLED screen with a pretty pixel-dense resolution. It has an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust screen brightness as per lighting conditions. It has an aluminum case with a sandblasted finish to reduce fingerprints and a wristband with a quick-release mechanism. It has an IP68 rating with 5ATM water resistance. It comes in three colors for the case: black, rose gold, and silver.
The OLED screen can display notifications, media controls (for the paired phone), and mini apps/widgets. It can last 13 days on a single charge, according to Samsung's battery life estimates. The Galaxy Fit 3 has an accelerometer, gyro, and a heart rate sensor. It can track over 100 types of workouts, including walking, running, biking, and tracking running. The upcoming fitness band lacks GPS and NFC, though, so you would need your phone to be with you for tracking outdoor activities like running. It can detect falls and send an SOS notification to selected contacts.
Samsung has added the ability to store your medical conditions, like allergies, so in case of emergencies, people and healthcare professionals can help you with the information on the Galaxy Fit 3. The device has just one button on the side, and you can press it five times continuously to activate the SOS message or display medical information.
The Galaxy Fit 3 doesn't run Wear OS, and it appears to feature custom software without support for third-party apps. It has a few mini apps, like Calendar, Weather, World Clock, and Samsung Health. Speaking of Samsung Health, all the health and fitness-related data that the Galaxy Fit 3 records syncs with a Galaxy smartphone or tablet via Samsung Health. It will come with plenty of watch faces, but it isn't clear if you can download more watch faces from non-Samsung sources.
Author's Note: Since the Galaxy Fit 3 is such a big upgrade over the Galaxy Fit 2, expect Samsung to price it much higher than its predecessor's $59 price tag. We can expect it to be priced at least $100, which would still be lower than the cheapest Wear OS smartwatch from Samsung, the Galaxy Watch 4. However, we feel like Samsung missed a trick here by not equipping it with GPS and a loudspeaker + microphone. If it had, it would have a much better value than something like the Xiaomi Band 8.
