Galaxy Glasses and Ring could be coming soon to rock our worlds

Samsung may soon expand its range of smart wearable devices and offer more than just smartwatches and wireless earbuds. Last week, the company filed two new trademark applications for a so-called Galaxy Ring and a pair of Galaxy Glasses. The latter might be the final name of Samsung's upcoming XR (extended reality / mixed reality) headset teased at Galaxy Unpacked on February 1.

Samsung was granted the Galaxy Ring trademark by KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service) on February 23 (via GalaxyClub). The Galaxy Ring classification describes it as a “smart device for measuring health indicators and/or sleep in the form of [a] ring.”

The KIPRIS application didn't reveal any other details, but this is not the first time we've come across information about such a smart wearable device. Back in October 2022, reports from Korea claimed that Samsung is indeed developing a smart ring that can monitor the wearer's health and activities. And the firm applied for a smart ring patent with the USPTO in 2021.

Galaxy Glasses mixed reality device could happen sooner

Samsung confirmed at Unpacked on February 1 that it has partnered with Google and Qualcomm to develop new XR (extended reality) experiences. And according to previous findings, this upcoming mixed-reality device features an internal battery, which most likely makes it a stand-alone headset rather than a shell that can accommodate a smartphone for rudimentary VR applications.

According to KIPRIS, this upcoming headset could be called “Galaxy Glasses.” Or, at the very least, Samsung trademarked this name to prevent anyone else from using it. Either way, the Galaxy Glasses are classified under goods including “headset for virtual reality experience,” “smart glasses,” “smartphone,” “headset for augmented reality experience,” and “headphone.”

These classifications strongly suggest that the Galaxy Glasses have built-in smartphone-like capabilities and headphones, and can deliver stand-alone virtual and augmented reality (or mixed reality) experiences.

Samsung hasn't revealed when it might want to release the Galaxy Glasses. But because the company teased new XR experiences at Unpacked, there is a chance that the augmented reality headset will hit the market before the Galaxy Ring, of which Samsung hasn't said anything during the Galaxy S23 official presentation on February 1.
