Last week, owners of the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ heard the disappointing news that their phone will no longer be getting any software updates, as the support period for the three phones ended after four years of regular security updates and three major OS upgrades.
But for some folks, we suspect that disappointment turned into anger after they learned the Galaxy S10 5G will continue to receive updates, even though it launched at the same time as the other S10 models (not counting the S10 Lite, which launched running a newer version of Android out of the box).
To further rub salt in their wounds, Samsung has released a new update for the Galaxy S10 5G right after support ended for the other models. This update, as you might have probably guessed, brings the April 2023 security patch to the phone.
And, well, that's it. Yes, Samsung might still be supporting the S10 5G, but keep in mind that it is unlikely to get any updates that do more than fix security vulnerabilities going forward. The rollout of the April 2023 security update for the Galaxy S10 5G has started in just one country so far, but we reckon more markets will join the party over the next few weeks.
The firmware version for the update is G977BXXSEHWC1, and you should be able to download it directly on your phone through the Settings » Software update menu. If that doesn't work, our firmware archive has everything you need to update your phone, but you will have to use a Windows PC for it.
