Samsung has released a new security update to the Galaxy Tab S7 series in the US. The Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ have started getting the October 2023 security update, but this update is currently limited to the carrier-locked models of 5G versions of these tablets, and other variants could get the update soon.
Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ get October 2023 security update in the US
The carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Tab S7 comes with firmware version T878USQS5DWJ2 in the US. The carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Tab S7+ bears firmware version T978USQS5DWJ2. These updates are available in the US on Sprint and T-Mobile networks. The October 2023 security patch included in the new software update fixes dozens of security flaws found in the previous version of the software. Don't expect it to bring any new features.
If you live in the US and have a carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Tab S7 or Galaxy Tab S7+, you can check for the new update. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S7 series in mid-2020 with Android 10 onboard. The tablets in the lineup received the Android 11 update in late 2020, the Android 12 update in late 2021, and the Android 13 update in late 2022. It isn't clear whether the devices will get the Android 14 update later this year.
Author's Note: Samsung promised four Android OS updates with the launch of the Galaxy Tab S8 series. So, it isn't clear whether the Galaxy Tab S7 series is also eligible for the same update schedule. It is likely that the Galaxy Tab S7 series won't get the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update that will be released to the Galaxy Tab S8 and the Galaxy Tab S9.
