Samsung has updated a huge number of Galaxy smartphones to Android 14/One UI 6 in a short time, and this week, it finally released the update for its pre-2023 foldable phones (we would like to think it's because of us, but we would be giving ourselves too much credit).
We reported earlier today that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are getting the stable Android 14/One UI 6 update in the US, and soon after, the update started rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 as well.
Stateside customers using carrier-locked units get first dibs
The initial rollout of the update is for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 on the Verizon, T-Mobile, and MetroPCS networks, and Samsung will hopefully bring unlocked units into the mix and also release the stable update to One UI 6 beta users soon.
Since this is a major firmware upgrade, it comes in at around 3GB, so you will want to make sure you use a Wi-Fi network or a mobile data plan with the necessary bandwidth before hitting the download button.
To download the update, open the Settings app on your Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Z Flip 4, select Software update, and hit Download and install. If you're a little tech-savvy, you can also upgrade to Android 14 by downloading the relevant firmware from our archives and install it on your phone using a Windows PC.
Next up for the Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 is One UI 6.1
Android 14 is the second of four major OS upgrades the Fold 4 and Flip 4 are eligible for, and it will soon be followed by One UI 6.1, which will make its debut on the Galaxy S24 series next month and is already being tested internally by Samsung for the Galaxy S23 lineup. The 2022 foldables will likely get One UI 6.1 sometime in February, though that may be a little too optimistic considering how long Samsung has taken to bring One UI 6.0 to the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.
