One UI 5.1.1: Change number of recent apps shown on the Taskbar

Multitasking has always been a major advantage putting Samsung Galaxy smartphones in a league of their own, and the experience is even better on the company's foldables and tablets. One of the ways Galaxy Z Fold smartphones and Galaxy tablets enhance your multitasking experience is through the PC-like Taskbar that sits at the bottom of the screen.

The Taskbar, introduced with One UI 4.1.1, serves multiple functions. It gives you quick access to your favorite apps so you don't have to rummage through the app drawer or go to the home screen to find them, and you can long press an app's icon on the Taskbar and drag it out to launch it in split-screen mode.

The Taskbar also includes shortcuts to recently used apps and lets you switch between them with a single tap, which is considerably faster than switching between apps through Android's standard recent apps screen. This is something you can turn off if you wish so the Taskbar isn't too cluttered, but did you know that on One UI 5.1.1, you can also choose exactly how many recent apps are shown on the Taskbar?

One UI 5.1.1, which is available for some Galaxy tablets and all Galaxy Z Fold smartphones except the original Galaxy Fold, allows you to have up to four recent apps on the Taskbar at any given time, and you can reduce that number to three or two by following the steps below.

Customize how many recent apps are shown on Taskbar

  1. Open the Settings app on your Z Fold or Galaxy tablet (if you're using a foldable, you will need to do this on the inner display).
  2. Tap Display to open display settings, then scroll down and tap Taskbar.
  3. Tap the Show recent apps option and then select the number of apps you want to see on the Taskbar.
