Samsung Electronics’ first monitor with Samsung Display’s QD-OLED display panel was the Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch S34BG85 (also known as G85SB), which the company launched last year. Since then, the tech giant has launched three more gaming monitors with QD-OLED display panels, the Odyssey OLED G9 49-inch, Odyssey OLED G8 32-inch, and Odyssey OLED G6 27-inch.
When Samsung launched the Odyssey OLED G8 32-inch earlier this year, many people thought that it was a replacement for 2023’s Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch since both models have the same name. Well, as it turns out, that isn’t the case.
Samsung has now launched the successor to the company’s first QD-OLED monitor (successor to 2023’s Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch). The new model is still called the Odyssey OLED G8 (and has the same 34-inch size) but comes with a different model number, LS34DG850 (also goes by G85SD). Samsung silently launched it by putting it on sale on France’s SHI shopping website.
2024 Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch price and features
The 2024 Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch costs EUR 1,068 (roughly USD 1,144). For your reference, Samsung launched the 2023 Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch for USD 1,499. However, the last year’s model is now selling for half the price in the US (USD 799).
All we know currently is that the 2024 Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch features Samsung's Display's 34-inch QD-OLED display panel with a 3,440 x 1,440 pixels resolution and a 175Hz refresh rate, which is exactly what 2023's model offers. We should know more about the new monitor once Samsung lists the product on its website. That being said, we have an idea about what it could offer.
We are assuming that the main improvement the Odyssey OLED G8 G85SD brings over last year’s model is that it will feature Samsung Display’s 3rd Gen QD-OLED display panel instead of 1st Gen QD-OLED display panel in Odyssey OLED G8 G85SB.

Samsung Display’s 1st Gen vs 2nd Gen vs 3rd Gen QD-OLED display panels
Compared to the 1st generation QD-OLED panel, the 2nd QD-OLED generation panel brought a different pixel structure for improved image quality, ‘Hyperefficient EL' for higher brightness and lower power consumption, and IntelliSense AI 2.0 for improving the durability of the panel by reducing image retention (also known as burn-in, a common issue in OLEDs).
Compared to the 2nd generation panel, the 3rd generation QD-OLED panel brings Quantum Enhancer with an AI-powered algorithm for further improving burn-in issues and power efficiency, and the Pico Inkjet Process that allows to fit more pixels in the same area (this improvement helps Samsung Display to offer 4K resolution in a 32-inch QD-OLED display panel).
So, compared to the 2023 Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch, the 2024 Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch should offer you better image quality, higher brightness, better power efficiency, and better durability. Expect Samsung to make the announcement about the Odyssey OLED G8 34-inch G85SD in the United States and other major countries in the next few weeks/months.
