Samsung today unveiled the new Galaxy S20 series at its Unpacked event in San Francisco. Today marks the beginning of this year’s flagship season and Samsung has come out the gate swinging with the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+.

Its launch strategy is a bit different this year than it was for the Galaxy S10 last year. Samsung also decided to not call this lineup the Galaxy S11, choosing to call it the Galaxy S20 instead to really showcase its intention of shaking things up in this new decade. Seeing as how they offer the best in flagship tech, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ are a great representation of Samsung’s determination to lead the way.

New Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ flagships launched

The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy 20+ aren’t the only models announced today, mind you. There’s also the Galaxy S20 Ultra. A handset that’s so far ahead of even these two that it deserves to be talked about separately.

The Galaxy S20 is what you’d expect to be the Galaxy S10e’s replacement since it’s the entry point to this series. It’s actually much better equipped than the Galaxy S10e was compared to the other models in its series.

It features a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ HDR10+ certified display while the Galaxy S20+ bumps that up to 6.7 inches. All Galaxy S20 models have a 120Hz refresh rate panel which allows for smoother scrolling and more fluid animations. Fast-paced games also look better because of the higher refresh rate.

Samsung’s latest chip, the 7nm 64-bit Exynos 990, powers the Galaxy S20 models with the Snapdragon 865 filling in for it in select markets. Both the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+ will be available with 8/12GB RAM options. The former will only have 128GB of internal storage while the latter also has a 512GB option. Both have a microSD card slot (up to 1TB).

Even the camera setups on both these models are largely similar. They have the same 12-megapixel f/1.8 OIS primary sensor with a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide and a 64-megapixel f/2.0 OIS telephoto sensor that's capable of 3x zoom and Super Resolution Zoom up to 30x. Both have the same 10-megapixel f/2.2 selfie camera. The Galaxy S20+ only gets an additional Time-of-Flight sensor at the back.

All of the standard Samsung flagship features are also present. They include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, Wireless PowerShare, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, Samsung Pay, and IP68 water and dust resistance. 4G LTE and 5G variants of both models will be offered.

The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ will be available for purchase starting March 6 in Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud Pink and Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue and Cosmic Black colors respectively. Prices will be officially revealed shortly.
