Samsung surprises Galaxy S20 FE 5G users with One UI 5.1 update

If you thought Samsung cared more about Galaxy S21 FE owners than S20 FE customers, you're in for a big surprise. As you may know by now, Samsung started rolling out One UI 5.1 for a handful of devices earlier today, and the Galaxy S21 FE was among them. But surprisingly, it looks like the company won't leave Galaxy S20 FE users waiting and has already started seeding the One UI 5.1 update.

Samsung has released the One UI 5.1 update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G (SM-G781B) across Europe. Customers can identify the update by firmware version G781BXXU4HWB1. As of this writing, One UI 5.1 is available for the Galaxy S20 5G in the following countries:

  • Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Ireland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Baltic Countries, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, France, Slovenia, Italy, Nordic Countries, Greece, Germany, Bulgaria, and Luxembourg.

The last big update for the Galaxy S20 FE

Samsung's 2020 Fan Edition smartphone went on sale with Android 10 pre-installed, and since it doesn't fit under the company's four-year update policy, Android 13 is its last major update. Furthermore, because it's unlikely that Samsung will release another version of One UI 5 before jumping to Android 14 and One UI 6, the ongoing One UI 5.1 update should be the last big firmware bump the Galaxy S20 FE ever receives.

The good news is that the Galaxy S20 FE story ends on a high note. So far, One UI 5.1 has proven to be a solid update on top of what already was a great foundation, i.e., One UI 5.0. You can check out our video below for a detailed look at One UI 5.1. But note that we're demonstrating the firmware on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and some One UI 5.1 characteristics might be missing from the Galaxy S20 FE-specific release.

You can update your Galaxy S20 FE 5G to One UI 5.1 (where available) by opening the Settings app on your phone, navigating to “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” You can also manually upgrade the Galaxy S20 FE using a PC after you download the official firmware files from our website.

Thanks for the tip, @MohamedWasef967!
