Samsung is trying really hard to give personality to bland colors

Samsung's best mid-range phones yet, the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55, have been available in many markets for a couple of months. They're now getting new deals in regions like Malaysia, and interestingly enough, Samsung is trying very hard to breathe some excitement into its relatively bland mid-range color options.

High-end Galaxy devices might be some of the more colorful you can find in the Android world, even if Bespoke Edition phones are no longer a thing. Online-exclusive colors add personality and more choices to high-end Galaxy devices, but Samsung hasn't extended that courtesy to lower-cost phones.

Take the Galaxy A35 and A55 for example. In Malaysia, they are available in three ‘Awesome' colors: IceBlue, Lilac, and Navy. They're relatively bland, or at the very least, they're very standard and don't stand out too much.

Along with releasing new deals earlier this week, Samsung tried very hard to add more personality to its mid-range devices by associating their standard colors with different refreshing beverages and even personalities.

For its new “Discover your awesome cup of personality” campaign, Samsung correlates the Awesome IceBlue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy Galaxy A35 & A55 colors with different character traits and refreshing drinks including The Slushie, The Floral Bubble Tea, and The Americano, respectively. Check out the posters below.

According to Samsung's almost astrological and zodiacal descriptions, Awesome IceBlue fits people who “often appear distant but have a warm heart that values personal connection.”

Awesome Lilac fits people who “appreciate the little things in life and. have a keen eye for nuance and subtlety.”

And Awesome Navy befits Galaxy A35 or A55 users who are “dependable and protective.”

It goes without saying that there's no scientific backing to these characterizations and color associations. It's just Samsung's marketing machine at work, disguised as a bit of silly fun for people who like to read into things or make such associations, or read the daily horoscope.

In any case, if you are looking for any reason to pick one color over the others, this campaign might help you decide which Galaxy A35 or Galaxy A55 to buy. Otherwise, Samsung also offers some real practical benefits to new Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 buyers for a limited time.

Real rewards regardless of colors

For this new promotional campaign in Malaysia, the real rewards for new Galaxy A35 buyers consist of extended warranties, rebates, and discounts on the Galaxy Fit 3 wearable and other Samsung accessories.

New Galaxy A55 buyers can benefit from those same rewards mentioned above, and in addition, they can get discounts on the Galaxy Buds FE wireless earbuds.

Of the two phones, the Galaxy A55 blurs the lines between the mid-range and high-end phone segments the most. It features an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back panels, and a new Exynos 1480 chip. However, neither phone supports Galaxy AI, so if you have any interest in Samsung's AI tools, you'll have to pay a bit more and buy at least the Galaxy S23 FE.
