Will the Samsung Galaxy S10 series get the Android 13 update?

The Galaxy S10 series is three years old at this point, but it still continues to have a huge fan and customer base. It’s also running the most current versions of Android and One UI, thanks to the fact that Samsung decided to include the Galaxy S10 lineup in its three-year OS upgrade policy.

The Galaxy S10 series began receiving the Android 12 and One UI 4.0 update at the start of 2022, and it has also been updated to One UI 4.1.1 since then. But what about Android 13? Is that on the cards for the Galaxy S10 series smartphones, or is Android 12 going to be the final major update for them?

Only the Galaxy S10 Lite is eligible for Android 13 and One UI 5.0

Well, the answer’s a little complicated: You see, the original four Galaxy S10 smartphones, i.e., the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10 5G, will not be updated to Android 13. The four devices launched running Android 9 Pie, which means Android 12 is going to be the last major OS update for them, as they are only promised three such updates.

However, the Galaxy S10 Lite should get Android 13, along with version 5.0 of Samsung’s One UI. That’s because even though it is technically part of the Galaxy S10 series, it launched many months after the other four Galaxy S10 models and ran Android 10 out of the box. It might even get minor One UI updates, such as 5.1 or 5.1.1, later on, though that can’t be said for certain at this time.

So, in essence, if you bought the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, or S10 5G, you can say bye-bye to any big Android or One UI updates going forward and only expect security updates. Even those will stop rolling in regularly in a year or so, after which you’ll have to upgrade to a newer phone if software updates are an important part of the user experience for you.
