The Galaxy Ring is finally here and we're very excited. This is the first “new” mobile device from Samsung and the company has rightly been hyping it up. The smart ring space is ripe for disruption and Samsung sees the perfect opportunity to muscle into the space with its engineering might and deep pockets, no doubt causing headaches to existing smart ring makers.

Like Frodo never forgot the fateful day he got his hands on the One Ring, nor will I when I got to wear the Galaxy Ring for the first time. As someone who finds that the smartwatch tends to get in the way too much for 24/7 health and fitness tracking, the Galaxy Ring makes perfect sense. Yes, it does what other smart rings can do, but it keeps me inside the Samsung ecosystem, which is really what makes the Galaxy Ring a well-rounded product.

I've gone full My Precious! for the Galaxy Ring

It looks great. The Galaxy Ring is discrete in its positioning of all the tech stuff so from a distance, it looks no different than a piece of jewelry, and a sleek one at that. The concave design adds to that appeal while the Titanium Black, Silver, and Gold finishes provide enough variety to suit any style. It feels really light and comfortable to wear, so if you're someone like me who doesn't like wearing a smartwatch to bed, this is the perfect device for sleep tracking.

The Galaxy Ring does what it's supposed to do without requiring any input from you. All of the various health and fitness metrics that it collects are sent to the Samsung Health app, where the magic of Galaxy AI is spun to provide detailed insights on sleep, activity, heart rate, workouts, and even personalized Wellness Tips.

Everything is laid out very well in the app so it's easy to understand and take any actions necessary to improve your health. One area where the Galaxy Ring stands out from the competition, particularly the Oura Ring, is that there's no subscription needed to extract the most out of the data it collects. Everything the Galaxy Ring tracks and subsequent processing of that data is available for free via Samsung Health.

We look forward to testing claims about the seven day battery life and dive further into its health and fitness tracking in our full Galaxy Ring review. For now, we come away from the hands-on experience with the confidence that the Samsung Galaxy Ring is most certainly going to be the one ring to rule them all.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Ring are open today and the device will be released on July 24. Prices start at $399.

Galaxy wearable users need better trade-in and recycling programs

Samsung has released a few pieces of disposable wearable tech this year. Despite the company's efforts to become more sustainable, offer prolonged support, and improve repairability, some of this year's Galaxy wearable devices, like the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Ring, went the opposite way and became more or less unrepairable. Samsung has already launched its first Qi2 certified device

Samsung was among the first smartphone brands to offer Qi wireless charging, and it consistently provides 15W fast wireless charging. However, it missed a beat by not offering the Qi2 wireless charging standard with the Galaxy S24. We thought Samsung wouldn't adopt the new wireless charging standard soon, as Apple originally developed it. However, Samsung […]

Weirdly, using a laptop made me stop wearing my Galaxy Watch

I stopped wearing my Galaxy Watch 5 at night a few months ago because the BioActive sensor would turn on in the early morning, even in Sleep Mode, and wake me up hours before the alarm would go off. I'm not sure if it's a defect or what, and maybe newer Galaxy Watch models don't […]
