13 million iPhone 6S and 6S Plus were sold across the launch weekend
Apple has revealed that initial sales of its latest iPhones have broken all previous records as the company continues to go from strength to strength.
Overall, 13 million iPhone 6S and 6S Plus handsets were sold over the initial launch weekend, having gone on public sale on Saturday September 25, as the company’s numbers lived up to expectations.
This breaks the previous record of 10 million sales over one weekend, set by the company’s previous device, the iPhone 6.

“Sales for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
“Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can’t wait to bring iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9.”
The date referenced by Cook concerns the launch of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in more than 40 additional countries, including Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain and Taiwan, with the new devices being available to buy in over 130 countries by the end of the year.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 6S and 5.5-inch iPhone 6S Plus were unveiled last week at an event in San Francisco, revealing upgraded hardware, camera and iOS 9 functionality.
As mentioned above, the new devices also feature 3D Touch, a potentially revolutionary feature which allows the device to monitor how hard a user is pressing on its screen, and perform different actions accordingly.
