Lenovo Pools All Of Its Smartphone Efforts Into Motorola

Lenovo is to merge its existing mobile operations into Motorola Mobility, more than 18 months after it bought the company – minus patents and Project Ara – for £1.76bn back in January 2014.

Under the restructuring, all Lenovo Mobile employees will join Motorola, with the latter now taking over all future design responsibilities.

All change

Lenovo recently announced plans to restructure its mobile division earlier this month following the unit’s poor performance, which contributed to disappointing results overall.

However the company stopped short of saying that the Lenovo Mobile brand will be completely stricken from existence, as it still helps the company sell a lot of devices in China.

Motorola has been enjoying a renaissance in recent times, with a series of critically acclaimed handsets.

Earlier this month, the company revealed its second generation of devices with three new smartphones, the Moto X Play, Moto X Style and a refreshed Moto G (pictured above).

It has also made major moves in the wearable technology industry, releasing the well-received Moto 360 smartwatch last year, with a successor rumoured to be in the works and coming to market soon.
