Salesforce Launches Developer Suite For Wearable Computing

Salesforce.com has launched a new initiative which aims to accelerate the adoption of wearable computing in the enterprise.

The Salesforce Wear developer pack for the Salesforce1 platform is a collection of online tools that can help create business apps for new types of devices to ensure the best customer and employee experience and is fully compatible with the popular first generation wearables like Fitbit, Google Glass, Pebble and Samsung’s Gear 2.

Getting smart

Salesforce Wear offers tools that can be used to create contextually aware applications that replace customers’ phones or wallets, or make the lives of salespeople and support staff easier by delivering useful information when they need it most. Apps could even keep the employees healthy by tracking their physical activity.

The Developer Pack also offers access to sample code, documentation, demonstrations and reference apps to learn from.

To connect devices of various types from various manufacturers, Salesforce has worked with partners including ARM, Samsung and Philips, among others.

“All of these new devices have different application architectures, UX patterns and data flows,” explains Adam Seligman, VP of developer relations at Salesforce.

“The Wear Developer Pack handles the identity, secure API access and plumbing necessary to connect the device to the Salesforce1 Platform, letting the developer focus on innovative new use cases.”

Salesforce Wear is available immediately as part of Salesforce CRM and the Salesforce Platform.

In August, the company is set to open its first UK data centre, located in Slough.
