The best Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro deals for September 2024

We've rounded up all of this week's best Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a deals into one handy resource right here on this page. If you're looking to pick up one of these still-excellent flagships for cheap, then you've come to the right place. We've included carriers of all shapes and sizes here as well as the cheapest unlocked prices so it's easy to get a Pixel 8 deal regardless of your needs. 

Even though the Pixel 8 range is no longer the latest and greatest from Google, we'd say they're still an amazing buy for 2024. Deals have included massive discounts of up to $440 at Mint Mobile, free devices from he likes of Verizon, and even some strong offerings from Google itself. Right now, these devices are still readily available at most retailers and definitely worth considering.

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro come in at $699 and $999 at full retail, respectively, which makes the Pro model a little pricier than the previous iteration. However, both models have received significant upgrades with a new chipset, upgraded cameras, and a host of new AI-assisted features that push forward Google's industry-leading prowess in the area. We've also seen plenty of awesome price cuts on these devices since release - which will likely continue since they're no longer the latest Pixel phones available.

Google Pixel 8: up to $600 off with a trade-in at Google
If you're looking for an unlocked device, the best option right now is to head on over to the official Google Store. This retailer has its own trade-in program that can be used to get a relatively decent discount on a device. Generally speaking, the savings aren't quite as good as the ones you find at the major carriers here but you'll have the freedom of being able to switch and choose plans. If you're interested in a prepaid plan, you can also sign up to the Google Fi network here to get up to $250 back after a two-year plan duration.

Google Pixel 8: was $699 now $599 at Amazon
You can get a decent upfront discount on the Pixel 8 at Amazon this week - overall, a great option if you're looking to simply buy a device outright. It's not the cheapest price we've ever seen ($499 is the record), but it is cheaper than the latest model right now so it's worth considering if you're looking to save some cash.

Google Pixel 8 Pro: up to $600 off with a trade-in at Google
Going for an unlocked device? A good option is to trade in your old phone at the official Google Store. While it's not the best option overall on the market right now, Google will still give you up to $500 off as part of a trade, which can be useful if you're looking to cut out the usual unlimited contracts at the major carriers. You'll also find options for the prepaid Google Fi service here, with a special promotion that rebates you up to $350 back after the duration of a two-year plan service.

This week's best Google Pixel 8a deals

Google Pixel 8a: $5/mo with a new unlimited line, plus free Samsung tablet at Verizon
The Google Pixel 8a is available for just $5 per month on an eligible unlimited data plan this week at Verizon - currently the best Pixel 8 deal overall at the carrier. In addition to a cheap device, you can also throw in a free Galaxy Tab S9 FE tablet and get $220 off a Pixel Watch 2 right now as side promotions, although note that cellular lines are required for any additional accessories. Overall, this is a strong offering from one of the bigger carriers but we have seen the device available for free under the same terms before so it might be worth holding out for a better deal at some point (Black Friday, for example).

Google Pixel 8a: $5.99/mo with an unlimited plan at AT&T
We'd recommend AT&T's current Pixel 8a deal as one of the better 'big carrier' options right now. At $6 per month, this device is one of the cheaper non-trade-in options currently available at the retailer. Note, however, that we have seen the device available for just $2.99 per month under the same terms before so this isn't the absolute best Pixel 8a deal we've ever seen from AT&T. You could potentially wait it out for a better deal if you're patient.

Mint Mobile is currently offering a great upfront discount on the Pixel 8a if you pick it up with a six-month plan. With this particular deal, you'll not only get a decent $100 saving, but Mint is also throwing in an additional six months of service for free. Put together, this is a great plan and cheap device combo.

What's new with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro?

Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro carry significant upgrades, even if the devices are outwardly rather similar to the previous iteration. Alongside new colorways, both have been refreshed with a slightly more rounded-off design with a matte glass back, as opposed to the gloss on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6.

Inside is where the vast majority of upgrades are concentrated, however, with the headline featuring being the new Google Tensor G3. As with previous chips, the Tensor G3 excels at super-charging AI-assisted tasks and enables a host of new photo editing features, advanced call screening, and a new AI wallpaper app. For outright performance, neither device will quite match the latest from Samsung or Apple, but the G3 is still more than powerful enough to zip through daily tasks and it now also supports Ray-Tracing, which will be a welcome addition for gamers.

Camera-wise, the Pixel 8 Pro carries the majority of upgrades with a new 48MP ultrawide camera, upgraded autofocus, a 5x optical zoom, and new 'Pro' photo editing tools. The standard Pixel 8 isn't a slouch when it comes to photos, however, as its main camera has been revised with a wider aperture (better for low-light situations), and you'll also have access to the majority of Google's latest AI trickery and features.

Finally, both devices now feature what Google's branding as its 'Actua' displays. In layman's terms, both devices have OLED displays with improved brightness and adaptive refresh rates. Of the two, the screen on the Pixel 8 Pro is more advanced, with higher overall brightness and an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120Hz (the Pixel 8 has 60 to 120Hz). 

Which device does TechRadar recommend?

• If you can line up a good trade, then go for the Pixel 8 Pro
• If buying a device outright, the standard Pixel 8 is good value

We usually favor the more premium devices here at TechRadar, especially if you can get a good trade-in deal - why not go for the better device, right? Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro make compelling choices within their respective price points, however.

For example, if you're buying a device outright, the standard Pixel 8 is very competitively priced at $699. That's $100 cheaper than the equivalent iPhone 15, and you're getting a more recent - albeit not quite as powerful - chipset in the form of the Tensor G3. It's arguably not as premium of a device, but you get a decent screen, processor, and a host of cutting-edge AI tools (particularly for photos) at a good price.

If you're looking to trade in your old device, you may find you can line up a better deal on the Pixel 8 Pro if you can get a rebate that covers the entire cost of the device. You'll potentially have to hand over a relatively decent device to get the full amount ($1,000) but you might be surprised at how generous some of the carriers' offers are if you're getting your device in conjunction with an unlimited plan. If you can get a big trade-in, then it makes sense to go with the more premium device.
