Something to look forward to: Samsung is unveiling the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 in less than a week, which means we're seeing new leaks all the time. First were photos, and now we have what will almost certainly be the final spec lists.
As with last week's reveal of the new colors and design of Samsung's next foldables, the spec lists come from prolific leaker Evan Blass.
The next versions of the Z Fold and Z Flip appear to be iterative updates. The Z Fold 6 is slightly (1.4mm) shorter, wider (1mm), and thinner (1.3mm) compared to the Z Fold 5 when folded. Unfolded, it's 2.7mm wider and 0.5mm thinner than its predecessor. The secondary screen, meanwhile, is 0.1 inches bigger, and the phone itself is 14 grams lighter.
The size differences mean the Z Fold 6's main display resolution is now 2,160 x 1,856 – the Z Fold 5's internal screen is 2,176 x 1,812.
One of the biggest upgrades appears to be the maximum brightness, which has been increased from 1,750 nits to a blinding 2,600 nits.
Elsewhere, the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC has been confirmed, and Samsung says LTE internet battery life is one hour longer, while video playback has been extended by two hours.
Samsung also says the phone has an improved Armor Aluminum frame and IP48 ingress protection, the latter signifying protection against solid foreign objects of 1mm in size and greater. Whether the new Fold is less susceptible to hinge issues remains to be seen – my Z Fold 4 hinge broke (below) after only a few months of light use, something several users experienced.
Finally, the cameras, the 4400mAh battery, and the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 remain unchanged.
As for the Z Flip 6, the previous rumors that its camera is getting a big upgrade from 12MP to 50MP as the RAM is increased from 8GB to 12GB appear true. The battery is getting a boost, from 3,700mAh to 4,000mAh, and it also sports a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.
Elsewhere, the Z Flip 6 is 0.2mm thinner than the Flip 5 when folded, and the LTE internet battery life and video playback are two and three hours longer, respectively. Moreover, the color choice is reflected across most of the device, including around the camera lenses.
Samsung's Unpacked event takes place on July 10.
