On the weekend of January 29-30, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) will launch its 26th "Garden Birdwatch"   and everyone in Scotland is invited to take part.The birdwatch   which has been running annually since 1979   simply involves watching your garden or local park for an hour at some point over the weekend, and keeping a record of the highest numbers of each species seen at any one time. Over 22,000 people in Scotland took part in last years event (over 400,000 took part throughout the UK), and it has become an extremely important ornithological survey. Through this event, the RSPB has succeeded in highlighting and keeping track of many important fluctuations in UK bird populations, and it has become an invaluable source of ornithological data.
