Hänsel und Gretel at Glyndebourne

On Boxing Day and for a week thereafter, the Guardian will be exclusively streaming a Glyndebourne production of the opera Hänsel und Gretel.

Laurent Pelly's 2008 witty modernising of this most popular of all fairy-tale operas will be available to watch in two acts.

There is more information about the opera, including a synopsis, on the Glyndebourne website, where younger viewers can also enjoy an interactive guide.

A DVD of this production is also available to buy. You can watch a behind-the-scenes introduction to it here.

The 2012 Glyndebourne festival opens next spring, with public booking available from 24 March. The first new production of the season – Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen – will be streamed live at selected cinemas and on the Guardian website on Sunday 10 June.
