Michael Jacobs is an environmental economist and political scientist. From 2004 to 2010 he was Special Adviser to Gordon Brown, first at the Treasury and then at 10 Downing St, with responsibility for energy, climate change and environmental policy. He was formerly General Secretary of the Fabian Society. His books include 'The Green Economy' (Pluto Press 1991), 'The Politics of the Real World' (Earthscan 1996) and 'Greening the Millennium: The New Politics of the Environment' (Blackwell 1998).
