  • I took these photos on 2 August 2015  in Santa Monica. It was sunny and warm and summer, which means the streets downtown were jam-packed. I found a diverse range of people biking in the marked bike lanes on the road as well as on sidewalks: young and old. White and Black and Asian and Hispanic. Tourists and locals. 
And they were riding for divergent reasons- to exercise, for fun, to beat the traffic, to work, etc. 
While people sat in traffic only a few blocks (and yet still a half hour away, at least) from the beach, people on their bikes glided by.
