The News of the World's lengthy campaign for "Sarah's law", to allow people to know the whereabouts of released sex offenders, has finally borne fruit. Home secretary Jacqui Smith has announced plans to run a trial in Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Cleveland and Warwickshire that will enable parents to be informed if anyone who has regular unsupervised access to their children poses a risk. The paper has been fighting for the law since the murder of Sarah Payne in 2000. (Via News of the World)
