With only the seventh phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections left to go, both the NDA and the Opposition INDIA bloc are giving their campaigns a final push.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28 led a roadshow from Kolkata in support of BJP candidate Tapas Roy. Before the event, Mr. Modi visited Maa Sarada’s residence at Bagbazar and paid homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Several prominent West Bengal BJP leaders, including Sukanta Majumdar and Suvendu Adhikari accompanied him.
He also addressed a poll rally in Barasat. “Not a single scam happened under BJP-led Central Government in last 10 years,” he said. He also added that the Centre is “exploring legal options on how to return money looted by TMC from people of Bengal”.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh, said that the INDIA bloc government will end the 50% cap on reservations. Mr. Gandhi said, “There is INDIA bloc and the Constitution on one side and those who want to finish the Constitution on the other.” He also said that the bloc will protect the Constitution with “dil, jaan aur khoon (heart, life and blood).“ Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was also part of the rally. He also mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his “sent by God” comment and said God sent Modi to help Adani and not the poor.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has transferred three police officers in West Bengal. The poll panel removed the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sunderban police district Koteshwar Rao, Minakhan SDPO under Basirhat police district Aminul Islam Khan and IC of Rahra police station Debashis Sarkar to non-election related posts.
Meanwhile, Mr. Modi is expected to visit Kanniyakumari on May 30 and stay there for 2 days to meditate at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. He is expected to leave Kanniyakumari on June 1.
