Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday in Kushinagar said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would return to power with a thumping majority on June 4, and predicted that Congress leaders would hold a press conference blaming electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the defeat of the INDIA bloc.

Mr. Shah added that following the June 4 results, responsibility for the Congress’ defeat would likely be placed on its national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, leading to his resignation. “Rahulbaba will not cross 40 and Akhilesh-ji will not get even four seats on the afternoon of June 4, you will see. Congress leaders will hold a press conference and claim that they lost because of the EVMs. The blame for the loss will also fall on Kharge-ji,” Mr. Shah said, addressing a rally in support of the BJP candidate for the Kushinagar Lok Sabha seat.

Mr. Shah pitched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s backward class identity, adding that Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav were born with a silver spoon. “Modi-ji was born in a backward class home. He understands the problems of the underprivileged sections, while both Rahul baba and Akhilesh-ji were born with a silver spoon and don’t know about the problems being faced by people of eastern Uttar Pradesh. They did not like the weather of the country. They did not tolerate the heat of Purvanchal, while PM Modi has not taken a single day’s leave in his tenure,” the Home Minister said.

Mr. Shah hailed Mr. Modi’s leadership and said that the BJP had given priority to the economic and social development of U.P. “Our government under PM Modi’s leadership has always given priority to the economic and social development of eastern Uttar Pradesh, and voters have always given us their love and blessings. The huge crowd present in the public meeting is proof that Modi-ji will return. The people of Uttar Pradesh have completely rejected hooliganism, crime and nepotism, and have put their stamp on Modi-ji’s 10 years of development and the country’s upliftment,” he said, adding that the enthusiasm in the public meeting was evidence that all the 80 seats of U.P. would be won by the BJP.

Praising the improved law and order situation in U.P. under the BJP’s rule, Mr. Shah added that mafias and anti-social elements had started fleeing from U.P. after the BJP-led government was formed in the most populous State of India. Pitching the issue of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Shah targeted the Congress for supporting fundamentalist elements who wanted to weaken India.
