Highway robbery continues

A four-member gang waylaid a car that was on its way to Kerala at Ettimadai bridge on Thursday at about 12.30 a.m., and took away jewellery, cash, and cell phone from passengers.

The police said that the incident occurred when Geno Thomas (42), a businessman from Guruvayur in Thrissur district of Kerala, and his family members were returning from the Nilgiris.

Besides Mr. Thomas, wife Simiji (32), daughters Evlin (7), and Kailin (4) and his brother's children Andrews (18) and Anita (16) were in the car. The robbers threatened them using iron rods robbed a gold chain weighing about 60 gm, ₹2,000, and a mobile phone from them.

The police said that Mr. Thomas had asked directions at several places. The police suspect that the robbers would have followed them from Coimbatore. The gang returned to Ukkadam after the robbery.
