PCB closure orders

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) on Wednesday reviewed the pollution caused by the disposal of effluents into Kunderu water body by the yarn/fabric units located at Chirala, Jandrapet, Vetlapalem and surrounding areas in Prakasam District and decided to issue closure order to 14 units.

According to a press release issued here today, these units were established without obtaining the Consent For Establishment (CFE) and Consent For Operation (CFO) from the APPCB and also did not provide effluent treatment plant to control water pollution.

The units include Sri Balaji Dyeing Works, Chundur Mallikarjuna Dyeing Works, Shiva Dyeing Works, Bhavani Dyeing Works, Bharathi Dyeing Works and Shivadhanam Dyeing Works in Jandrapet, Srinivas Yarn & Cloth Dyeing Works, Standard Colors and Ajantha Processors, Vetapalem apart from KSR Dyeing works, Syamala Natural Dyes, Sivaiah Dyeing, Dye Life and Reddy Dyeing Unit, Chirala.

The Board also decided to issue directions to Tirumala Milk Products, Kadivedu, Nellore District to upgrade the ETP and limit the production capacity to 180 KLD and furnish Bank Guarantee of Rs.50 Lakhs towards compliance with the APPCB standards and conditions. The pollution control status of Empee Sugars & Chemicals Ltd., Nayudupet, SPSR Nellore District, was reviewed and it was directed to operate the distillery unit at restricted capacity of 13.6 KLD till compliance with stipulated conditions.

Meanwhile, the APPCB Task Force Committee decided not to revoke the closure orders issued to Sri Lakshmi Stone Crusher, Venkateswara Stone Crusher (Unit-II) and Sri Raghavendra Stone Crusher located along State Highway in Budavada, Prakasam District as the crushers were established without obtaining the CFE & CFO.

Closure orders were also issued to B.J.Textiles Processing located at Jeelapatur, SPSR Nellore District as it was not operating the ETP properly and discharging partially treated effluents outside the industries which found way into nearby irrigation canal, the press release added.
