Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday accused Trinamool Congress of “parivar raj” (dynasty politics) and alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wants to make her nephew Abhishek Banerjee Chief Minister of State.
Addressing an election rally at Memari in Purba Bardhaman district, the BJP leader said that the Lok Sabha election is about deciding whether people want ‘parivar raj’‘ or ‘Ram rajya’ in the country . “This election is also about deciding whether you want the nephew as Chief Minister of West Bengal or Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of India,” he said.
The Home Minister also said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not attend the Ram temple inauguration ceremony in Ayodhya, as she was afraid of offending her “infiltrator vote bank”. “Invitations for the consecration ceremony were sent to both Mamata didi and her nephew (Abhishek Banerjee), but they did not attend it, as she was afraid that infiltrators, who are her party’s vote bank, might get offended,” he said.
While the Chief Minister had visited temples in Kolkata on the day of consecration of Ram Temple, she accused the BJP of trying to politicise a religious event by attempting ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
The Home Minister accused the West Bengal Chief Minister of “misleading” people on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and “welcoming” infiltrators for vote bank politics. “She supports infiltration in Bengal, but opposes Hindu refugees getting citizenship,” Mr. Shah said.
Responding to the remarks of BJP leader, Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee said that if Mr. Shah wants him to quit politics, then there are three options which he might try. “First the Centre should release ₹1.64 crore funds pending to the State or release funds of PM Awas Yojana or he should contest against me from Diamond Harbour, defeat me and I will quit politics,” he said.
The Trinamool Congress also tried to take a dig at BJP leaders mispronouncing the names of key places in West Bengal.
“HM @AmitShah, a serial offender, mispronounces the name of yet another LS Constituency of Bengal while his accomplice @myogiadityanath follows his footsteps! First “Belurghat”, then “Vardhaman” and now “Birbhumi”, do the Bohiragotos ( outsiders) have no regard for Bengal?,” the Trinamool tweeted from its official handle.
