A Special court on Tuesday reserved order on an application by the Central Bureau of Investigation for summoning more witnesses to record their evidence in the 2G spectrum allocation case.
Reserving the order on conclusion of arguments by counsel for the CBI and for the accused, Special Judge O.P. Saini said he would pass it on November 18.
The CBI has sought examination of additional witnesses, submitting that some new facts have emerged during investigation by the Enforcement Directorate into the money laundering angle of the main case.
The ED has filed a separate charge sheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act against 19 accused, including DMK MP Kanimozhi and former Telecom Minister A. Raja, and the court has framed charges against them.
Mr. Raja and Ms. Kanimozhi, facing trial in the main case as well, and the other accused opposed the CBI’s plea.
Counsel for Mr. Raja argued that the statement of ED officers, which the probe agency wanted to get recorded, could not be read as evidence.
