JNU students' union leader Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on sedition charge for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans.

JNU students' union leader Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on sedition charge for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans.

The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its order on the bail petition moved by JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar in the sedition case registered against him for a controversial event organised on the university campus on February 9.

The court questioned the evidence gathered and put up by the prosecution.

Hearing arguments on the petition, Justice Pratibha Rani asked how Kumar was responsible if some outsiders allegedly entered the JNU premises and allegedly raised some anti-national slogans during the event organised to mark the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afazal Guru.

While the defence counsel contended that there was no evidence to prove Kumar's involvement in the alleged crime of sedition, the court asked if the police had some tangible evidence apart from the television footage of the event.

Even as the Dehi Police opposed the bail during the hearing, the Delhi government supported the plea for releasing Kumar on bail. Delhi government's standing counsel Rahul Mehra said there was no solid evidence against Kumar.
